Vital Records Control (VRC)
Overview
The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I works within the VitalChart department of VRC Companies, LLC to process all medical record requests. The role ensures timely, accurate releases while safeguarding patient privacy in compliance with HIPAA, federal, and state regulations.
Responsibilities
Process ROI requests for Continuing Care and Disability Determination Services, with cross‑training on additional request types as needed.
Verify request validity, patient authorization, and HIPAA compliance before releasing records.
Classify request type, log the request in ROI software, retrieve and upload requested chart portions, and perform quality control checks to avoid PHI breaches.
Adjust invoices, release requests to the valid requesting entity, and reject non‑compliant requests.
Document exceptions, communications, and other relevant information in ROI software.
Alert supervisors to questionable requests, suspected breaches, connectivity problems, or delays that may impact VRC performance.
Answer requester inquiries respectfully and efficiently, and store all records and files securely before leaving the work area.
Maintain office supplies, adhere to VRC and healthcare facility policies, and complete required training within the allotted timeframe.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; degree preferred.
Prior experience with ROI fulfillment, EHR/EMR platforms, and Windows environment preferred.
Demonstrated attention to detail, prioritization, organization, and deadline management.
Strong communication skills, interpersonal abilities, and computer literacy.
Must be detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and capable of staying focused on tasks for extended periods.
Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English; bilingual skills desirable.
Pay $17.00–$19.00 per hour
