Responsibilities
Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center, a subsidiary of UHS, is a beautiful private 182‑bed hospital conveniently located in Oakland Park, FL, that specializes in the treatment of drug addiction, mental health issues and concurrent disorders for adults as well as adolescents. Our professional staff members are committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive care that uniquely fits the intensity and severity of each patient’s needs. Child & Adolescent Unit Therapist – Full time
The Unit Therapist works with adolescents (ages 5-17) to help them overcome psychological/emotional issues as well as substance abuse issues in some cases. They will complete psychosocial assessments and formulate treatment plans based on individual needs. They will conduct family sessions to achieve better outcomes for the patient and their family post‑discharge. The therapist will be able to recognize crisis situations and provide interventions. Ability to work collaboratively with peers, administrators, physicians, and allied staff is a must.

Qualifications Education/Training
Master’s Degree from an accredited school in Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling; License preferred
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required or equivalent
Experience
One (1) year of experience working in a hospital or psychiatric counseling setting with adults and/or adolescents.
Licensure/Certification
Must be a Registered Intern with the State of Florida and be able to provide Supervisory agreement.
LCSW, LMHC, or CAP - Preferred
CPR certification
Knowledge and Skills
Strong therapeutic skills and knowledge of therapeutic philosophies (group and individual treatment skills)
Working knowledge of developmental stages
Some minimal knowledge of community resources
Ability to communicate effectively with patients with varied ability to understand
Strong assessment skills and ability to intervene in a variety of situations
Sensitive and aware of diverse cultures and their practices
