Job Summary

Provides accurate and professional language translation and interpreting services. Translator provides written translation of a wide variety of documents. Interpreter facilitates culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Provide written translation of medical documents, patient letters, and other material. Interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, preventive care, and maintain cultural competency. Interact with patients, families, and health care providers, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies. Travel between locations during shift as required.

Qualifications

Minimum 1 year of experience providing medical interpreting in English and target language (prefer Spanish). Minimum 1 year of medical translation experience, or MA in Translation and National Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI) required. Preferred 3 years directly related experience. Bachelor’s degree in translation, foreign language or related field required. Master’s degree in Translation preferred. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish, solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms. Formal interpreter training preferred (40 hour medical interpretation training program). CCHI or NBCMI Certification preferred.
