Specific Job Responsibilities Assembles and prepares the necessary equipment required for daily food service to students and/or teachers; preheats ovens; obtains necessary funds (cash, change) for registers; prepares disinfectant wash water and wipes down all counters and tables within the food service environment; orders, receives, prepares, and serves student meals and does necessary paperwork for documentation.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Duty No. 1 – Assembles and prepares the necessary equipment required for daily food service; preheats ovens, prepares disinfectant wash water, wipes counters, and tables. (As Needed, A1)

Duty No. 2 – Schedules and secures student and/or adult helpers; ensures performance of assigned tasks; substitutes and/or arranges substitutes for absent workers as needed. (Daily, A1)

Duty No. 3 – Monitors student lunch sales; maintains confidentiality of student meal status in the School Lunch Program. (Daily, A1)

Duty No. 4 – Performs cashiering functions for students; ensures the serving line operates efficiently and effectively. (Daily, A1)

Duty No. 5 – Prepares daily serving and cashiering reports, including production records, freezer/cooler temperature logs, and bank deposit summary. (Daily, A1)

Duty No. 6 – Uses IFAS to calculate and requisition food, cleaning, and paper supplies needed for menus. (Daily)

Duty No. 7 – Cleans, sanitizes, and dismantles the serving line after the meal; properly stores leftover food and supplies; performs basic custodial functions. (Daily, A1)

Duty No. 8 – Prepares bank deposit for pick up by food service delivery drivers. (Daily, A1)

Duty No. 9 – Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with co‑workers and school site staff. (Daily, A1)

Duty No. 10 – At sites with more than one Server/Cashier, a “Lead” shall be chosen to give direction to others; may perform additional related NS tasks. (As Needed, A1)

Knowledge Basic food service safety and sanitation, National School Lunch Program regulations, basic food preparation, computer input skills, basic office procedures such as phone answering, filing, 10‑key adding machine.

Skills Computer input and basic math skills.

Training and Experience High School Diploma or GED. Previous education, training, work or life experiences providing reasonable evidence of successful performance of the tasks listed. Experience may be evidenced through 3–6 months of cashiering and/or meal preparatory experience.

Licensing Requirements Valid Alaska driver’s license. Must submit an "Alaska Food Worker" card upon hire.

Physical Requirements Walking and continuously standing; bending or twisting at the neck and trunk; reaching with hands and arms; stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; continuous hand strength to grasp tools or utensils; lift/carry up to 40 pounds; push/pull up to 22 ft/lbs. Vision: close, depth, peripheral and color vision.

Post Offer / Pre‑Placement Examinations Post offer/pre‑placement examinations are utilized by MSBSD to create a safer working environment for employees. MSBSD requires such examinations for all applicants who have been conditionally offered employment in designated job categories.
