Utility Protection and Control Technician I at Eaton. Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is seeking a Utility Protection and Control Technician I. This role involves remote work, travel up to 3 consecutive weeks at a time, additional hours and occasional weekends to support client commissioning activities. Travel is primarily in the Northeast and northern Midwest based on customer requirements. A company vehicle is provided for both business and personal use. The expected annual salary range is $83,250 ($40.02/hr) to $130,000 ($62.50/hr). Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, and qualifications and may include premium pay overtime and per diem depending on client assignment. As a Utility Protection & Control (P&C) Technician I, youll assist the Lead Technician in overseeing technical operations and documentation, including work plans, isolation plans, and functional test plans. This hands-on role involves comprehensive testing and final checkout to ensure safety and reliability. Youll collaborate closely with the Lead Technician, acting as a crucial safeguard to identify and correct errors from design or installation, protecting employees, equipment, and the integrity of transmission and distribution systems. Work around energized “In-Service” electrical equipment to perform testing and commissioning activities on reliability upgrades in energized “brownfield” transmission stations. Assist in the development of isolation plans & procedures for the removal of existing equipment such as protective relays, relay panels, AC/DC panels, battery systems, breakers, transformers, SSVTs, CCVTs, PTs, CTs, and linear couplers. Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel, educate customers, and present information to internal and external customers. Assist with all aspects of testing of substation devices and equipment. Identify and resolve design errors. Directly witness or perform critical tests such as DC functional trip testing prior to energization and in-service. Position Success Criteria

Successfully complete and maintain compliance with Eaton’s safety qualification program and policy, including the EESS Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) program and any required annual re-certifications thereafter. Submit to periodic customer-required background and drug screenings. Qualifications

Basic Qualifications 2+ years of utility substation relay testing experience or currently enrolled in a 2-year relay testing technical program (community college or trade school accredited program), or a bachelor program in a related technical field with completion by June 2026. Eaton will not sponsor immigration for this position (no CPT, OPT, STEM OPT, H-1B, etc.). Must reside within the contiguous United States to be considered. Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license. Submit to initial and periodic customer-required background and drug screenings. Preferred Qualifications Associate or Bachelor degree in electrical engineering and/or applicable military experience. 5+ years of experience in utility substation electrical testing. Transmission substation relay test experience. Level 3 or 4 NETA or NICET certification. Power distribution field experience servicing, maintaining, and testing electrical distribution equipment. Skills Knowledge and practice of safety precautions related to working with electrical and electronic equipment. Ability to read drawings and understand protection schemes and proper checkout techniques for troubleshooting and correcting non-working schemes. Experience with relay testing software such as Enoserve (RTS) and Doble Protection Suite. Experience with relay communication software such as SEL Compass, AcSELerator Quickset (SEL-5030), GE Enervista Launchpad, RFL Gard PRO, and other common industry software. Knowledgeable with all aspects of testing and operation of various protective relays and power meters, including microprocessor-based, solid state, and electro-mechanical relays.
