Under the general guidance of the paramedic program director and direct supervision of the dean of the college the paramedic faculty member will prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for courses in the paramedic program; develop coursework and syllabi, student learning goals and objectives; evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; request and maintain supplies and equipment and prepare budget requests. Attend workshops, seminars and conferences to increase knowledge; ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area; meet with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ progress and other issues; as well as assist with recruitment and retention.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES General

Teaching

Delivers effective instruction; ensures adherence to college requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures; correctly assesses the educational needs and class progress of students; selects and obtains appropriate educational materials for courses; prepares reports on the current status of students in the program indicating whether performance is aligned with performance indicators, program goals and progress schedule; ensures consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, tests and other appropriate materials; maintains knowledge of computer technology and its application to field of study.

Develops course outlines, goals and objectives; prepares appropriate curricula, including non-traditional content and methods to achieve objectives and goals of students; follows designated and approved lesson plan(s) using appropriate techniques and aids. Prepares instructional reports for submission to supervisor within specified time frames of request; teaches online courses per established guidelines.

Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; establishes criteria and tests the students in order to measure each student’s progress; communicates students’ progress to the student and appropriate personnel in accordance to established guidelines; accurately records pertinent information in students’ records as required.

Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests; performs and maintains classroom inventory according to established policies and procedures; promptly notifies supervisor of defective equipment.

Prepares, maintains and submits student’s progress and participation reports in accordance with the prescribed guidelines; ensures documentation meets all required organizational and accreditation policies and state guidelines; analyzes collected data for improvement of student learning outcomes; compiles and submits reports in a timely manner to supervisor.

Performs and supervises all aspects of lab instruction and maintenance; performs and/or supervises lab set up and take down for instructional purposes; teaches theory and practical applications of the technical area in a classroom, lab , and field environment that closely simulates the environment of the industry while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field

Facilitate the learning process that creates a safe non-threatening climate which supports learning

Participate in assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet course and health program(s) outcomes. • Support student success, including posting office hours.

Service

Collaborate with Jacket Student Central and the Department Chair to schedule courses that align with student demand.

Collaborate with Jacket Student Central on issues related to student advising.

Advises students on course selection and other pertinent matters in a professional and effective manner.

Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ progress and other issues.

Assist program faculty in advisement of students with complex or serious problems.

Serve on committees contributing to the growth of City College, and Montana State University Billings.

Serves as mentor for adjunct faculty within program area.

Participates in standing or ad hoc committee meetings relating to curriculum development, extracurricular activities and other college sponsored activities or programs as required.

Actively participates in staff and faculty meetings as needed to discuss students’ progress, problems and/or programs.

Assists with recruitment and retention efforts; actively recruits students for the college by explaining training offered; actively participates in the retention efforts of the school.

Scholarly Activities

Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences and by reading professional literature.

Attends internal and external educational programs and professional meetings that meet the requirements for continuing education.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Education Required:

Associates degree in Paramedicine

Experience Required:

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in the workplace.

Demonstrated experience working with the community and health care entities.

Demonstrated experience with online instruction.

Teaching experience at a Two‑Year accredited institution of Higher Education.

Demonstrated knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation.

Field experience in the delivery of out‑of‑hospital emergency care

Current certification as a Paramedic

Current certified Paramedic Instructor

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Education Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution

Experience Preferred:

3 years of teaching experience in an accredited Paramedic Program

Demonstrated knowledge of national paramedic program accreditation, national registry and state certification/licensure

Demonstrated experience teaching with an online Learning Management System (i.e. Desire to Learn OR Canvas)

Physical Demands Requires sufficient mobility to work in a college with hands‑on programs and operations, operate office equipment, able to lift or pull at least 40 pounds. Additional physical demands may include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching overhead and horizontally, repetitive hand movements, sitting for extended periods of time, and 4-6 hours of screen time per day.
