Job Overview

We are looking for a dynamic

Utility Operator

to positively impact the

Operations

team at our Fort Smith, AR location. This safety‑sensitive position works rotating shifts and requires safe and productive operation of plant equipment to produce quality product.

Key Accountability – Safety

Comply with applicable MSHA regulations as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and related procedures within the facility’s safety and health management system.

Communicate necessary safety information to teammates to fulfill CFR obligations and protect themselves from injury or illness.

Take personal responsibility for safety by maintaining a safe work environment and evaluating tasks using Covia SLAM (Stop, Look, Analyze, Manage) risk protocol; report all near‑miss incidents, unsafe acts, or situations and injuries immediately.

Administer all facets of safety and health policies while adhering to the SLAM risk method within the scope of all tasks.

Work only if fit to carry out duties without affecting the safety and health of others.

Avoid willful or reckless conduct that could adversely affect the health and safety of fellow employees or visitors.

Key Accountability – Operations

Adhere to site procedures and instructions given by supervisors or team leads.

Operate equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime, maintaining product quality.

Perform physical manual labor, including shoveling, sweeping, carrying material, and climbing ladders as required.

Operate equipment such as bucket elevators, ball mill, belt and pneumatic conveyors, dust collectors, kiln, screens, and other plant machinery.

Monitor all equipment parameters (temperature, pressures, amperes), interpret data, charts, and instruments to make process adjustments as needed.

Complete required paperwork accurately and professionally.

Assist with any continuous improvement projects as necessary.

Conduct pre‑shift and routine equipment and area inspections, maintain a safe work environment; communicate findings of daily shift inspections to Production Supervisor and Kiln Operators.

Ensure material flows through the process to product bins and tanks.

Collect and process raw material and product samples, record and report results, and adjust operating parameters as directed.

Safely move, switch, offload, and load rail cars via Track Mobile.

Safely load trucks, accurately weighing and preparing bill of lading for transport.

Safely operate forklifts and maintain housekeeping in assigned areas using a handheld shovel and broom.

Perform all other duties as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required.

Experience with kiln or ball mill operations preferred.

Experience in heavy industry, mineral processing, or manufacturing preferred.

Demonstrated experience contributing within a production/operations team to deliver against set targets.

Demonstrated commitment to safety and health with prior experience identifying and managing risks.

Ability to operate required computer programs.
