Overview

Code Enforcement Inspector – City of Kennesaw. The purpose of this position is to perform inspections of residential occupancy structures and enforcement of city codes. Work varies and requires individual judgment within prescribed standards and procedures. Coordinate with all departments, city, state, and county agencies, and the general public as needed for compliance and enforcement issues. The position reports to the Building Services department. Job Responsibilities

Inspect existing residential buildings for structural, safety and other hazards; cite corrections to bring structures into compliance with city housing codes and zoning ordinances; oversee remedial actions and recommend changes as necessary. Patrol and/or inspect an assigned area to monitor for violations of local codes. Respond to complaints of potential code violations related to signage, building occupancy, nuisances, hazardous sidewalks, housing conditions, land use, zoning, animals, noise, dumping, grading, filling, polluting, or other code-related matters. Investigate unsanitary or overgrown conditions on vacant lots or grounds, around buildings, junked vehicles, or other related violations; notify police for enforcement of vagrancy or criminal/drug violations; compare facts to code requirements; make findings and issue warnings, correction notices, or citations. Meet with owners, tenants, contractors, developers, businesses, etc., to review and explain code requirements and violations; secure code compliance. Enforce city sign ordinances, including inspections and issuing citations when violations occur. Draft and distribute correspondence, memoranda, and notices; provide information to individuals requesting information or assistance in code enforcement matters. Assist in obtaining, enhancing, preparing, or presenting exhibits or other evidence in court as required; maintain logs and records related to inspection and enforcement activities. Prepare recommendations for amendments or additions to codes or regulations related to the position; coordinate efforts with police, zoning, building, prosecuting attorney, and other staff or agencies as needed; work with police and prosecutors to obtain statements or depositions as needed; consult with prosecutors and prepare case reports for court action; testify in court. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of ordinances and codes. Knowledge and competency from specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic high school education. Knowledge of approved methods and materials used in building construction. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to recommend changes or updates to codes and ordinances; enforce city zoning codes firmly, tactfully, and impartially. Ability to perform a multitude of movements requiring moderate physical effort; occasionally works in an uncontrolled environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with business owners, contractors, neighborhood representatives, public officials, and the general public; maintain effective relationships with other employees, building owners, residents, tenants, and the public. Ability to perform site inspections and investigations; understand, interpret, enforce, and communicate policies, City Code of Ordinances, procedures, and protocols. Ability to use a PC and basic software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, email). Ability to comprehend and interpret ordinances and codes for daily enforcement with the public. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of work experience with a high level of public contact, including enforcement, inspections, investigation, or customer service; experience enforcing municipal codes. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class C Georgia driver's license by the start date and have a satisfactory five-year driving history to include no DUI. Must be able to obtain ICC Property Maintenance Certification within one year. Benefits
