Position: Disability Claims Examiner 2
Background Check: This position requires a criminal background check and completion of a federal background check in accordance with HSPD-12 for issuance of a PIV credential card.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree and two years of full-time professional disability claims examination work.
Substitution: Additional full-time professional disability claims examination work may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Responsibilities
Determine adult and child medical eligibility for Social Security Disability, Supplemental Security Income or Medicaid benefits using medical, psychiatric, vocational, and educational data for initial and reconsideration claims in accordance with SSA guidelines.
Conduct telephone interviews with claimants and others to obtain or clarify application information, determine jurisdiction and obtain records.
Review and analyze applications, medical assessments, records, and vocational assessments; review prior decisions for accuracy; issue reconsideration decisions.
Document case notes, appointments, and correspondence; enter evidence into electronic case management folder.
Assess medical conditions, identify impairments, onset issues, limitations; prepare medical assessments.
Consult with internal medical consultants and other experts; select, compose, and send federal disability determination notices to claimants and authorized representatives.
Schedule or reschedule consultative examination appointments; notify parties; authorize payments for examinations and travel.
Review claimant's work history; determine adequacy; contact claimant by phone if additional history needed; compare residual capacity with functional requirements.
