Position Title Clinical Lab Services Senior - Critical Care Laboratory Department: University Hospital | Critical Care Laboratory

Scope of Position The Critical Care Laboratory (CCL) provides comprehensive, time‑sensitive laboratory services to patients. The CCL utilizes a state‑of‑the‑art total laboratory automation system that processes and delivers specimens to automated chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, and coagulation analyzers. Additional areas of testing include specialized coagulation, urinalysis, body fluid, blood gas, rapid molecular, and kit testing. The laboratory provides training for residents, new staff, and medical technology students. The laboratory is staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday, and services all OSUWMC inpatient areas as well as the University Reference Laboratory and OSU Physician Office testing needs.

Position Summary The Senior Clinical Laboratory Professional provides advanced technical or operational experience within the Clinical Laboratory. The Senior clinical laboratory professional performs specialized automated and manual laboratory procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results, and is directly responsible for the technical quality of tests performed in the laboratory. Administrative duties include instrument technical requirements such as validations, creation and execution of section competencies, section QA/QI responsibilities, technical procedure writing/implementation, assisting with scheduling, training, and recordkeeping. The Senior Clinical Laboratory Professional works under the direction of the division director, lead technologist, and lab manager.

Minimum Education Required Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or biological science. American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification obtained within 1 year of hire. Candidates must have 1 year of work experience as a Clinical Laboratory Professional at OSU Medical Center in the focused area of oversight. Total years of service greater than or equal to 3 years preferred.

Required Qualifications

Maintains certification status: meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements.

Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
