Summary Objective The purpose of this position is to conduct all laboratory tests for medical diagnosis and environmental analysis. Analyze tests results and prepare reports on findings. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains records and files.

Performs a wide variety of serologic, bacteriologic, chemical, and microscopic tests in a certified medical laboratory.

Conducts tests to aid in the detection, diagnosis, isolation and treatment of diseases.

Monitors the receiving, recording, numbering, processing, examining, rechecking, and reporting of results obtained from conducting analytical examinations.

Reviews and checks laboratory tests submitted by laboratory personnel.

Compiles information and prepares reports on test results and program operations.

Performs various examinations on tissue, body fluids and body exudates.

Conducts chemical tests and analysis on bacteria to identify viruses, fungi, protozoa and foreign matter in food, beverages, water, and body tissues.

Prepares media, solutions, strains, reagents or specimens.

Records results of test analysis, maintains accurate records on each test and culture, and properly labels specimens and test requisitions.

Performs related work as assigned.

CLINIC

Draws blood from patients and prepares for transporting to laboratory for testing.

Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, or related discipline.

One (1) year of medical, clinical, industrial, environmental, veterinary or research laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment.

Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
