Program Start Next program start date: May 2026 – August 2026. The New Graduate Nurse Program offers varied start dates based on graduation and NCLEX dates.
Eligibility
Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
New Graduate Nurse: Nursing student in their final semester, nursing graduate within 12 months of graduation, or RN who has worked less than 6 months.
Unit Overview Unit 7 East is a 28-bed Acute Care general surgery/Bariatric Post‑op unit. It is a Bariatric Accredited Center providing specialized postoperative care with an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Pathway. The unit handles frequent discharges and post‑operative admissions, offering opportunities to learn new skills and critical thinking.
Responsibilities
Education – Participate in identifying and meeting self learning needs, attend education programs, use patient education materials, assess patient readiness to learn, and evaluate developmental levels.
Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance for plan of care revisions, discuss patient care with the interdisciplinary team, and communicate information to promote continuity of care.
Implementation – Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, perform bedside point‑of‑care testing, utilize organization and nursing standards, organize and prioritize care, and consult resources for complex care issues.
Leadership – Develop goals for professional growth, achieve or renegotiate goals with supervisor, facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration, contribute to unit goals and performance improvement, use communication systems, promote cost‑effective care, give feedback, and support a safe, clean, and secure environment.
Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations, synthesize assessment data, anticipate discharge needs, and develop relationships with families to advocate for the patient.
Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, use multidisciplinary resources, address cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritize tasks for complex patients.
Research – Read relevant journals, bring ideas and questions for staff assessment of applicability.
Qualifications
Education – Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher within seven years of employment date.
Licensure – Registered Nurse license in North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
Certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider.
Experience – No prior experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Proven ability to provide competent clinical nursing care, utilize nursing process, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and promote evidence‑based practice.
