An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self‑motivated person with excellent organisational skills to join our team working at the Bristol Children's Hospital. You will work to provide an efficient administration and clerical service ensuring patients receive the most appropriate date taking into account the needs of the patient, organisation and NHS targets.

This is a challenging role working within an extremely busy booking office; it is therefore essential that you are enthusiastic, motivated and able to work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment. NHS administrative experience is essential as is the ability to manage waiting lists to both standards and access targets.

Main duties of the job

To maintain and manage Elective Waiting Lists to support effective patient management, within targets.

Booking of theatre lists in accordance with clinical priority and length of wait, to ensure effective utilisation and management of theatre capacity.

Assist with the smooth running of the Admissions Department.

Seek opportunities to develop the above services in accordance with the needs of the hospital.

Be responsible for entering and updating accurate information on the Careflow and Bluespier systems, in a timely way.

Communicate effectively and accurately over the telephone with patients and other departments plus external agencies.

Adopt and ensure compliance with all relevant policies.

Promote and support changes to working practices, to improve service delivery.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training

Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths

Business and Administration Level 3 NVQ or equivalent experience

Knowledge and Experience

Clerical / administrative experience, including filing and/or reception

Experience of dealing with the public, both on the telephone and in person

Experience of using a Patient Administration System

Previous NHS Experience

Skills and Abilities

Effective and polite manner when dealing with people, both face to face and on the phone

Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy

Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others

Ability to work on your own, using your own initiative, if required

Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers

Effective organisational skills

Good IT skills including Microsoft packages

Working knowledge of admission policies and procedures
