The
Senior Director of Systems Engineering
is responsible for driving the architecture, integration, and technical execution of complex, multi-disciplinary systems across the organization. This role oversees the systems engineering function, ensures product and platform reliability, and aligns technical strategy with business objectives. The Senior Director leads cross-functional teams through the full product lifecycle—from concept and requirements through design, integration, validation, and release. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership Define and execute the systems engineering vision, strategy, and roadmap. Partner with Product, Engineering, and Operations to align technical direction with business goals. Champion systems thinking, technical excellence, and engineering best practices across the organization. Oversee development of system-level architectures for hardware, software, and integrated platforms. Lead major trade studies, technology evaluations, and system-level decisions. Establish and enforce engineering standards, modeling practices, and requirements management processes. Execution & Technical Oversight Direct complex system integrations, ensuring quality, performance, and reliability targets are met. Provide hands‑on guidance to teams solving high‑impact technical challenges. Lead and mentor systems engineers, test engineering, and technical project managers. Build high‑performing teams through recruitment, training, and organizational development. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Software, Hardware, Program Management, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure seamless system integration. Support customer engagements, proposals, and program reviews as the technical authority. Drive alignment between engineering, product requirements, and operational constraints. Governance, Compliance & Risk Management Ensure systems comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and certification requirements. Identify and mitigate technical and program risks. Oversee documentation, traceability, and engineering configuration management. Qualifications
Required Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline. 12–20+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role. Proven success leading large, cross‑disciplinary engineering teams. Expert‑level knowledge in systems architecture, requirements engineering, integration & test, and lifecycle management. Experience delivering complex products involving hardware + software integration. Preferred Master’s in a technical field. Experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, automotive/EV, networking, or other high‑complexity domains. Familiarity with MBSE tools, systems safety, and certification processes. Strong business acumen and ability to communicate with executives and customers. This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
