Shipping Clerk - 1st Shift

In accordance with customer specifications, the Shipping Clerk, inspects and dispatches shipments
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan loads based upon customer due date to ensure on-time delivery and maximize use of trucks
2. Direct forklift operators to arrange loads for shipment
3. Verify shipments for accuracy
4. Coordinate Customs paperwork with Customs Brokers
5. Prepare packing lists, mill certified test reports, and bills of lading for loads
6. Establish and maintain relationships with long haul carriers
8. Locate and schedule long haul carriers for inbound and outbound shipments
9. Manage local carriers
10. Expedite shipments as needed
11. Maintain good housekeeping and safety standards in finished goods warehouse
12. Communicate with sales and plant production management to advise of delivery date or make production changes
13. Communicate with customers regarding deliveries
14. Learn receiving functions to act as back-up for receiving coordinator
15. Assist in inventory management functions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Proficient oral and written communication skills • Proficient math skills • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word • Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements • Knowledge of basic arithmetic • Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions • Ability to accurately use tape measures, micrometers, and calipers • Ability to communicate effectively • Basic reading and writing skills with ability to understand and comply with sales
