Survey Instrument Operator , where you’ll gain hands‑on experience supporting both field and office survey operations. In this entry‑level role, you’ll work closely under the guidance of experienced surveyors to learn how to properly set up, operate, and maintain surveying instruments while supporting a wide range of projects. This position is ideal for someone eager to build a career in land surveying, enjoys working outdoors, and is ready to expand their technical skills. You will assist with data collection, traffic control, basic field calculations, and document research contributing to accurate, high-quality survey deliverables that support engineering and construction activities across our organization.
Responsibilities
Set up, adjust, operate, and inspect surveying equipment including electronic total station, data collector to measure distances, elevations, angles, and other data in order to collect survey data.
Process data from manual or electronic field books
Perform basic field calculations of horizontal and vertical geometry of roadways under supervision
Retrace or survey boundary lines under supervision
Perform calculations for construction stakeout for review
Assist in researching existing record information including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right‑of‑way documents, and maintain field data records
Perform other duties as required
Education & Experience Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and minimal experience required
Ability to read and understand various types of documents and operate instruments in order to provide accurate information
Strong attention to detail
Valid driver's license and sufficient driving record
Ability to work varying schedules
Ability to travel at times and overnight
Daily work environment includes working outdoors and in rough terrain. Individuals will walk, sit, and stand while operating various equipment, tools and machinery. Individuals may need to carry, push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs. Individuals may need to climb to various elevations, must possess the visual acuity sufficient to read alpha/numeric symbols, and be able to perform computation and design.
