Emergency Medical Dispatcher Full-time ,

About American Medical Response – St. Louis Emergency Communications The AMR St. Louis Emergency Communications Center is one of the largest private EMD Communications Centers in the country serving multiple states in the midwest. Call volume includes interfacility requests from hospitals and nursing homes as well as emergency requests from private callers and 911 municipalities. We serve as a secondary public safety answering point to various 911 agencies. Employees are frequently required to triage medical calls and provide pre-arrival instructions to patients.
What is an Emergency Medical Dispatcher? An Emergency Medical Dispatcher is an emergency medical professional who is responsible for receiving, recording, and managing requests for ambulance assistance. The Emergency Medical Dispatcher will process requests to transport medically ill and traumatically injured patients in emergency and non-emergency situations. The Emergency Medical Dispatcher must quickly and accurately collect all necessary information to deploy appropriate emergency resources.
About the Program Eligible candidates will be hired on as a full-time employee and compensated for all completed training time. Candidates will complete all classroom training and live training as scheduled.
This training includes scenario-based skill development designed to prepare them for work in the Communications Center. The Communications Academy provides the internationally recognized
Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
training and certification, CPR certification, and training on all necessary non-emergency intake skills and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Understand and adequately implement the concepts of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) as published in Principles of Emergency Medical Dispatch (and as customized by AMR) as a minimum standard of care
Allocate EMS resources based on approved protocols and established processes
Maintain a high level of expertise in the use of the computer-aided dispatching (CAD) system
Responsible for complete and accurate data entry for all service requests
Knowledge of Company and Departmental policies, operating procedures, and protocols
Participate in and complete all continuing education as outlined by the department
Must be able to function effectively in a potentially stressful environment
Possess excellent written and verbal skills essential for effective communication with patients, medical personnel, co-workers, and clients.
Ability to utilize maps to identify locations as it relates to transport requests and crew safety
Monitor multiple radio channels to maintain contact with local agencies
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while demonstrating a high level of professionalism
Must maintain a high-level of customer service while also communicating effectively with persons in difficult, life-threatening and other emergency situations
Ability to understand basic computer applications
Must be able to work weekends and holidays on scheduled rotation
Other duties as assigned by the department

Minimum Qualifications
Be at least 18 years old
Have proof of a HS diploma or GED
Successfully complete computer-aided pre-interview test
Ability to clearly communicate via telephone and radio
Ability to listen, talk, and type simultaneously
