Position Overview

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician Lead follows robust processes in decontamination, processing, and sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment, ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing, and assembling instruments and equipment for high‑level disinfection or sterilization. The Technician always follows the manufacturer’s instructions for use, department and hospital processes and policies, accurately maintains required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems, prioritizes instrumentation for processing, answers telephones, and dispatches instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. The Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and service standards.

Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 18 months experience in sterile processing or 1600 hours of hands‑on experience in sterile processing
Certifications:
Maintain CRCST or CSPDT Certification through HSPA or CBSPD by completing required CEU hours. Recommend obtaining additional sterile processing certifications of CIS, CER, and/or CHL
Other:
Completion of PROF062‑Preceptor Workshop and PROF358‑Preceptor Workshop pre‑course curriculum within 6 months of hire; basic computer skills; must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE); must interact with staff and co‑workers across a diverse range of disciplines; must follow directions; must operate equipment
Physical Demands:
Frequent: high/mid/low level lift of items weighing around 25 pounds; frequent: hand coordination
