Position Summary The Ultrasound Technologist, under the direction of a physician and general supervision of the supervising technologist, performs ultrasound procedures in Diagnostic areas. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative, in applying ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis for Cherry County Hospital and Clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities

To produce diagnostic ultrasound images in an acceptable and high quality manner to be interpreted by the physician or radiologist

Consult with physicians and radiologists

Take calls during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled

Adhere to the ALARA principle

Follow all safety requirements and regulations that pertain to service performed by the department

Maintain radiology images

Maintain radiology reports and ensure the reports get to the ordering physician

Responsible for the procurement, storage, and utilization of supplies

Keeps up to date with new procedures, equipment, and methods

Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records is maintained

Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures

Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies

Performs other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities Required

Knowledgeable of functions of ultrasound

Ability to set up and operate equipment safely and properly

Ability to work with physicians, radiologists, cardiologists, patients, staff, and coworkers

Work closely and cooperatively with department personnel, the public, and other staff

Keep hospital and patient information in a confidential manner

Must be knowledgeable of state and federal confidentiality laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, and be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and instructions regarding the privacy and security of protected health information applicable to the position.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Physical demands require being able to transport patients in wheelchairs and on gurneys

Able to complete patient transfers in and out of wheelchairs and on and off gurneys

Ability to push portable ultrasound and EKG machine

Requires use of arms, legs, back, and eyes, which could cause strain

Regularly involves the potential for exposure to hazardous materials such as contaminated body fluids

Must possess the knowledge and insight to comply with universal precautions, hospital policies and procedures

Requirements Minimum Job Requirements

Must have graduated from a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Certification Program, an accredited radiology program or began doing ultrasound prior to 2000 and be a registered ARDMS sonographer planning to become certified in the immediate future.
