Education Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
Experience Four plus years
Licensure/Certification
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in South Dakota
Valid State Driver’s License

Direction on unconventional and/or complex problems, and possible solutions
A thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment
Managerial Responsibilities
Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with entry-level engineers and technicians
Assists in determining schedule and producing project proposals as required
Mentor Engineer Levels I and II as appropriate
Essential Responsibilities In accordance with established criteria and with Heyer Engineering best practices
Completes moderate design tasks
Prepares portions of project documents
Edits specifications
Performs research and investigations
Maintains project files
Skills / Technical Expertise
Moderate/Practical knowledge of and has developed engineering skills (advanced trainee)
Structural engineering
Detailing
To evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features and a broader assignment (small projects or portions of larger projects)
To collaboratively use judgment to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments within a specific practice area
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and engineering software (RISA and/or Tekla)
Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
Assists with client, customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings
Sufficient English skills to compose correspondence, proofread documents, communicate tactfully and effectively with administrators, office staff, clients and vendors
Respectable oral and written communication skills
Recognizes that changes are inevitable and positively implement changes
Fieldwork may be included
Other duties as assigned

Involved in outreach activities with community service organizations
Member of professional practice organization, member of local program or committee

Good mobility and dexterity: regularly required to stand or sit for long periods of time, walking, bending, and climbing to inspect work areas and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
May be asked to do large format filing
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and inspect visually designs/drafts and sites
Travel to client/vendor locations
Physically able to conduct field/site inspections
