Study hours are standard workdays (8 am–5 pm). The role will require travel to rural communities for data collection, including overnight, evening and weekend visits.

Location: Salt Lake City, UT. Campus: Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Position: Part‑time, seasonal Research Assistant (RAYS Study).

Start date: Within next 4 months, with possibility to extend.

Pay Range: $12.02 – $21.63 per hour.

Job Summary Our research team led by Dr. Yelena Wu at Huntsman Cancer Institute is hiring a part‑time, seasonal research assistant to support the RAYS (Rural Adult and Youth Sports Protection) Study, focusing on skin cancer prevention in youth sports teams throughout Utah. The position will provide up to 19 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Develop and revise study protocols to ensure clarity and participant safety.

Travel to rural communities enrolled in the RAYS project for data collection.

Establish trusting and collaborative relationships with stakeholders and study participants.

Prepare materials and staff for study visits, including traveling to rural counties.

Lead activities for skin cancer prevention using a structured protocol and collect survey data from participants.

Document activities and outcomes in appropriate databases.

Compile reports summarizing study progress.

Run basic statistical analyses (e.g., descriptives) to characterize study samples and intervention effects.

Conduct qualitative interviews and code interview data.

Attend team meetings to discuss progress, successes, and challenges.

Participate in ongoing training to maintain fidelity to protocols and other required training.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

– Office environment, nearly continuously.

Physical Requirements

– Sitting, hearing, listening, talking (nearly continuously); repetitive hand motion, walking (often); bending, reaching overhead (seldom).

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or an equivalent (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). One year of experience in research and analytical techniques; demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience; demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.

Patient‑sensitive employees required to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy; exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs.
