Theatre Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner The closing date is 12 January 2026
The Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine is one of the largest fertility clinics in the South West. At our purpose‑built facility we use state of the art equipment and modern technologies to provide comprehensive fertility investigation and treatment for NHS and private patients.
We currently have a great opportunity to recruit a newly qualified nurse or newly qualified operating department practitioner to join our theatre team. This role will be key to providing high quality care to patients during day case procedures and recovery. To work in the IVF Theatres experience is not essential as full training will be given to the right candidate. You will also need good communication skills, a caring attitude, ability to conduct yourself professionally and diligently in line with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology (HFEA) Authority's Code of Practice and a desire to work in this interesting field of healthcare.
Main duties of the job Duties will include:
Preparing theatre
Offering patient care and support on arrival at the clinic
Scrubbing and assisting in theatre for Egg Collections, Surgical Sperm Recovery and Embryo Transfer procedures
Recovering patients after sedation
Assisting with updating and maintaining service records of all medical equipment
Ensuring correct control, storage and administration of controlled drugs and other drugs in accordance with clinic protocols.
Supporting the Lead nurse with ordering & stock rotation where appropriate.
Actioning day surgery reviews and contacting patients regarding these.
Liaising and working with the clinical nursing team to contact patients following surgical procedures
Transabdominal ultrasound scanning for embryo transfers

Job responsibilities Duties will include preparing theatre, offering patient care and support on arrival at the clinic, assisting with Egg Collections, Surgical Sperm Recovery and Embryo Transfer procedures and recovering patients after sedation; as well as assisting with updating and maintaining service records of all medical equipment and ensuring correct control, storage and administration of controlled drugs and other drugs in accordance with clinic protocols.
Qualifications To apply for the position the following criteria are essential:
Newly Registered 1st level Nurse with NMC registration or Newly qualified ODP with HCPC registration.
Knowledge and Experience
Interest in Womens Health
Understanding of clinical governance and audit issues
IV drug administration (training will be given if required)
Venepuncture
Skills
Ability to motivate self and others
Good team worker
Ability to work unsupervised after training
Physical aptitude to undertake periods of prolonged physical effort and manual handling.

Experience of working within a theatre setting

Ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales.
Flexible to work shifts to fit with the needs of the service, including weekends and Bank Holidays, as necessary.
Ability to work under instruction and within a team to produce a high standard of patient care.
