Unit Secretary, Birthing Center Purpose of Position Perform receptionist/secretarial/birth recording duties on Maternity Unit and functions as the central communication source in the Nursing Station. Schedule Details 24 hours per week, rotating days/evenings, 12‑hour shifts, 7 am‑7 pm, every other weekend & rotating holidays. Organization Cape Cod Hospital Primary Location Massachusetts-Hyannis Department CCH-Birthing Center Compensation Hourly; $18.3 Seniority Level Entry level Employment Type Full‑time Job Function Administrative Industries Hospitals and Health Care Responsibilities Completes necessary forms, requisitions and communications to implement orders. Maintains proficiency in the current EMR system. Maintains accurate and complete patient records on unit per established department policies and procedures. Organizes patient Pre‑Natal Progress Records imported from Obstetricians’ offices. Initiates birth records for all infants. Completes Birth Certificates for all newborns using the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Virtual Gateway system. Assembles paperwork for all newborns and completes the process by obtaining parent signatures and notarizing Paternity and Non‑Paternity documents. Fax, scan, and transmit completed documentation to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Registry of Vitals Records office in a timely manner. Properly utilizes Nurse Locator for timely communications with nursing staff and the Patient Call system to respond to patient call bells. Maintains patient chart in appropriate functional order per hospital policy. Initiates admission and registration of all birthing center patients. Represents the hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients. Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials and supplies on unit. Prints visitor passes for visitors presenting at the desk. Responds in a professional and courteous manner in all telephone and verbal communications with internal and external customers. Adheres to safety, blood/fluid policies and procedures when transporting specimens to the lab. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co‑workers. Performs other work‑related duties and activities as assigned or requested. Qualifications Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare informatics systems. Successful completion of a medical terminology course or successful pass of a medical terminology challenge exam. Must become a birth registrar with Vitals Information Partnership (VIP) within 60 days of hire. Must become a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Notary Public within 60 days of hire. Medical Secretary/Medical Receptionist experience preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
