Navarro Research & Engineering is recruiting a Waste Management Specialist in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Responsibilities
Conduct waste characterization activities, including sampling coordination, profile development, and verification of waste acceptance criteria (WAC) compliance for approved disposal facilities
Package, label, and prepare waste in accordance with DOE, EPA, DOT, and site‑specific requirements, ensuring proper segregation, container selection, and contamination control
Prepare, review, and maintain waste documentation, including waste profiles, shipping papers, manifests, and associated records to support regulatory compliance and traceability
Coordinate and support waste shipments to approved disposal facilities
Interface with Waste Operations, Environmental Compliance, Radiological Control, Transportation, and Project Management personnel to support safe and compliant waste disposition activities
Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and requirements, including DOE Orders, 10 CFR, RCRA, TSCA, DOT, and site procedures
Participate in field walkdowns, job hazard analyses, and pre‑job briefings to support safe work execution and ALARA principles
Identify and report waste‑related issues, non‑conformances, or regulatory concerns, and support corrective actions as required
Maintain accurate field records and support audits, assessments, and inspections related to waste management activities
Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to Integrated Safety Management (ISM) principles and site‑specific safety requirements
Requirements
Shall have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a scientific discipline, or related technical field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in waste management, environmental compliance, or waste transportation
At least one specialist must have proven experience and demonstrated proficiency in wastewater treatment and liquid waste management
Experience will include radioactive and hazardous waste characterization, packaging, storage, and disposition in accordance with RCRA, TSCA, DOE Order 435.1, and DOT regulations
The Waste Management Specialist(s) must coordinate with Y‑12 waste generator organizations and personnel for the acceptance or rejection of waste streams
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required.
