Responsibilities and Duties The ASL Interpreter shall: Provide onsite, unclassified ASL/English receptive and expressive simultaneous interpretation in various settings, both independently and in teams, conveying all cultural and linguistic information embedded in the target message. Convey the thought, intent, and spirit of the speaker to a deaf/hard of hearing person. Interpret/transliterate expressively and receptively using manual and oral communication methods for the deaf and hard of hearing. Maintain confidentiality of exchanged information. Communicate effectively by signing, orally, and in writing. Keep detailed and accurate records. Meet schedules and deadlines. Qualifications and Skills The qualified ASL Interpreter must: Possess advanced, accurate voicing skills to mediate culturally and linguistically between spoken English and ASL. Be familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provisions. Have skills across a broad range of interpreting assignments. Possess general knowledge of specialized vocabulary, including medical terminology, supply chain management jargon, and business vernacular.
