Position Purpose Administer anesthesia and anesthesia‑related care in collaboration with attending anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other medical professionals for patient care services including but not limited to surgery, perinatal services and emergency response. Administers anesthetics within scope of practice and in accordance with clinical privileges.
Essential Functions
Participates in pre‑anesthetic preparation and evaluation.
Prepares anesthesia equipment and supplies appropriately for procedures.
Evaluates the patient pre‑operatively by interviewing, examining, and selecting appropriate anesthetic.
Verifies procedural consent prior to each procedure.
Formulates patient‑specific anesthesia plan of care from the pre‑surgical assessment and reviews it with attending anesthesiologist, physician, podiatrist or dentist.
Implements, monitors and adjusts patient’s physiologic condition as appropriate for type of anesthesia and patient’s needs.
Transfers responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post‑operatively to assure continuity of care and patient safety.
Reports and completes documentation upon transfer of the patient from intra‑operative to post‑operative care provider.
Implements acute and chronic post‑operative pain management modalities.
Selects and orders medications, fluids and ventilatory support to facilitate recovery from anesthesia.
Discharges patient from the post‑anesthesia care unit and provides post‑anesthesia follow‑up, evaluation and care.
Participates in additional areas of responsibility within the expertise of the individual CRNA, e.g., responding to cardiac arrests and elective intubations.
Ensures appropriate documentation to charge for services rendered.
Marginal Functions
Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the hospital’s confidentiality norms and standards.
Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital in all interactions.
Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation; assists in care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required.
Maintains educational requirements for licensure and certification.
General Job Requirements
Holds current license as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
Holds current license as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Holds Masters Degree in Nursing and is Certified as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
Is privileged and credentialed by the Medical Staff in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws and remains in good standing.
ACLS Certified.
CPR Certified.
Demonstrates problem‑solving, interpersonal skills, communication, planning/organizing, quality control, adaptability, and dependability competencies.
Reporting Relationship Lead CRNA and/or Section Chief, Anesthesia.
Equipment and Work Aids General office equipment; anesthesia carts, anesthesia machines, infusion pumps, and other patient care equipment.
Location & Salary Chicago, IL – $123,000.00–$151,000.00 – 1 month ago.
