Title: Specialist / Community Podiatry – Band 7 (Fixed Term 11 months)

Location: Peckwater Health Centre, London

Salary: £56,276 – £63,176 per annum (pro‑rate P/T)

Job overview Provide specialist community podiatric care for patients with complex high‑risk foot problems, including diabetes, vascular complications, chronic wounds and associated medical conditions.

Main duties

Deliver expert foot‑care in community, specialist clinics, secondary care, wards and residential homes.

Assess, treat and manage high‑risk diabetic & other foot conditions autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Accept emergency referrals from GPs, community podiatrists and other professionals; provide rapid specialist advice and intervention.

Educate staff, students and apprentices; support community staff in complex foot condition management.

Line‑manage and supervise Community Podiatrists – deliver regular supervision, appraisal and operational duties.

Promote multidisciplinary team working and patient education on high‑risk foot care.

Detailed responsibilities

Apply clinical reasoning to assess, diagnose and formulate treatment plans for acute/chronic diabetic foot problems, amputations, neuropathic/vascular complications and musculoskeletal conditions.

Carry out precise debridement and advanced wound‑care techniques for neuropathic, ischemic and chronic wounds.

Interpret investigations (microbiology, X‑ray, scans) and make appropriate referrals.

Maintain high‑quality documentation and compliance with HCPC and NHS standards.

Contribute to the development of care pathways and quality improvement projects.

Person specification – Qualifications

HCPC registration.

Diploma/BSc (Hons) in Podiatry.

Certificate in local anaesthesia.

IRMER course completed.

Person specification – Skills & knowledge

Extensive knowledge of diabetes and vascular complications in podiatric care.

Proficient in wound‑care modalities and biomechanics.

Up‑to‑date clinical knowledge and evidence‑based practice.

Competence with diagnostic investigations for high‑risk foot.

Strong organisational and communication skills.

Capability to work with a diverse population.

Person specification – Experience

Post‑graduate NHS experience with high‑risk diabetic feet.

Experience in educating healthcare professionals.

Experience in multidisciplinary and primary‑secondary care settings.

Line‑management/supervision experience.

Clinical exposure to complex wound care and patient education.

Involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate training; CPD in leadership and management.

Key skills / abilities

Excellent communication, IT, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Ability to prioritise and plan workload to meet deadlines and changing demands.

Experience in audit, research and quality development.
