GIS/IT Director

The City of Baxter is part of the Baxter/Brainerd Micropolitan Statistical Area that has a population of over 99,000. Baxter, a regional center located in the heart of the central lakes area of Minnesota, is seeking applicants for the position of GIS/IT Director. This position is a member of the city’s management team. The position performs professional and confidential work assessing technology needs of the city and providing users with effective, coordinated information systems which provide timely, accurate and meaningful data for all city departments. Administers and supervises the training, planning, analysis, design, integration and implementation of IS systems and ongoing maintenance and support of personal computers, networks, telecommunication systems, internet and GIS mapping system. Required qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, geographical information systems programs or related field; 3 or more years’ progressively responsible experience in information systems environment; must possess through working knowledge of network design, network administrator, personal computer hardware/software and knowledge of telecommunications; equivalent combination of education and experience considered; must successfully pass background investigation conducted by the Baxter Police Department. Desired qualifications are 5 or more years’ progressively responsible experience in information systems environment. The 2025 salary range is $47.94 to $60.72 per hour, based on experience. 2026 salary range is under review.
