Overview Registered Dental Assistant role at Harbor Community Health Centers. Base pay range: $26.50/hr - $28.50/hr. This range is provided by Harbor Community Health Centers; actual pay will be based on skills and experience. Job Summary This position is a member of the oral health team and provides direct and indirect support to the Dentist before, during and after the provision of dental care services. Essential Duties & Responsibilities To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required: Prepare treatment room for patient; welcome, seat and drape patient. Sterilize, deliver, position and hand instruments; suction and assist dentist. Prepare materials by selecting, mixing, and placing them as allowed by rules and regulations. Expose and develop radiographic studies; pour, trim, and polish study casts. Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control and postoperative instructions. Ensure operation of dental equipment; perform preventive maintenance and call for repairs as needed. Maintain inventory of dental supplies and place orders as needed. Participate in safety/compliance programs and promote patient satisfaction. Cross-train with front office tasks (checking in patients, scheduling, checking insurance). Conduct mouth-mirror inspections and chart obvious lesions, restorations, and missing teeth. Apply and activate bleaching agents and use non-laser light-curing devices where applicable. Record findings with caries detection devices and prepare pit and fissure sealants as directed. Obtain intraoral images for CAD; perform pulp vitality testing and record findings. Place bases, liners, etch, and bonding agents for restorative procedures; prepare teeth for bonding. Place, adjust, and finish provisional restorations; size crowns and bands; fabricate temporary crowns intra-orally. Remove excess cement with ultrasonic scaler; apply sealants. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Required education, experience and/or training: Board-approved courses in radiation safety (successfully completed). Current and active RDA license from the Dental Board of California. Board-approved course in Dental Practice Act, eight-hour board-approved course in infection control, and Basic Life Support (CPR) card. Fingerprint clearances (Department of Justice and FBI). Knowledge of dental/office equipment and dental/medical terminology. Two years minimum experience as a dental assistant (preferred). Effective communication in English (verbal and written). Ability to work with diverse populations; treat all patients and colleagues with dignity and respect. HR Procedural Requirements Legal authorization to work in the United States. Clear all post-offer background screening and education verification. COVID-19 vaccination or qualifying medical/religious exemption. Note: Additional duties may be assigned. Physical Requirements The physical requirements describe the essential functions of the job, including the ability to sit, use hands, reach, talk, and hear. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Hours HarborCHC is open Monday-Thursday 7:00am-7:00pm, Friday 8:15am-5:00pm, Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm with occasional overtime or other shifts as needed. This is a non-exempt position and overtime must be approved in advance by the Supervisor.
