Summary
The Laboratory Phlebotomist performs positive patient identification and collection of various laboratory specimens on inpatients and outpatients as needed. The role includes receiving specimens into the lab reception area, inputting specimen information into the laboratory information system, and requesting patient registration as necessary. Phlebotomists maintain specimen integrity during collection, transport, and processing of samples, communicating specimen issues to caregivers. They provide customer service by greeting visitors, answering the telephone, transferring calls, faxing results, and assisting with specimen requirements. Patients served range from newborn through adolescence, with occasional adult cases, and all procedures follow Cook Children's Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and the Clinical Laboratory Compliance Plan.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Minimum of one year phlebotomy experience
Pediatric experience preferred
