Job Summary
This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent placement. Position: Phlebotomist 3497.
Location
Waldorf, MD and surrounding areas. This is a float position covering Capital Heights and La Plata.
Schedule and Duration
Shift mainly 8:00 am–4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with availability required between 6 am and 6 pm. Projected duration is 3 months with potential for permanent placement.
Compensation and Benefits
Benefits are available. Mileage expenses are paid for round‑trip travel from the home base PSC to other locations.
Requirements
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
Minimum 2 years of experience performing venipuncture in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
Clean driving record and reliable transportation.
Comfortable working alone and performing hard‑stick draws.
Ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge and record maintenance data, decontaminate, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate technique using straight and butterfly needles.
Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport, maintaining required temperature and following specific protocols to preserve specimen integrity.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, attend annual department trainings, and answer telephone calls and laboratory results inquiries.
