Key Responsibilities Performs patient check‑in procedure and updates patient information in registration system. Places generic manual orders and sends to Specimen Receiving or the Patient Service Specialist for accessioning. Instructs patients on proper collection of urine, stool, sputum, and saliva specimens, and provides appropriate collection supplies. Administers oral solutions for glucose tolerance testing and retrieves blood samples using the best method for the patient. Demonstrates Credo behaviors in all interactions, explaining blood draw procedures and assisting patients and staff. Verifies patient identification with two identifiers before and after venipuncture, labeling tubes immediately after the venipuncture in front of the patient. Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures, and performing venipunctures and capillary sticks according to age‑specific guidelines. Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing, including centrifuging and aliquoting blood samples, and packages/stores specimens for transport. Ensures safety checks, manages supplies, and assists with training and precepting students and new hires. Performs other duties as assigned. Technical Capabilities Phlebotomy (Intermediate): Mastery of phlebotomy without requiring support; able to train and educate others. Specimen Collection (Intermediate): Mastery of specimen collection; able to train and educate others. Quality Assurance (Novice): Continual analysis and improvement of work processes. Equipment Maintenance (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in equipment maintenance. Patient Assessment (Intermediate): Mastery of patient assessments; able to train and educate others. Customer Service (Novice): Influences customers and responds quickly to service requests.
