About the Job The role involves performing all aspects of phlebotomy for out‑patient, in‑patient, and outreach settings such as nursing homes, assisted living, and hospital‑organized outreach. Responsibilities include venous and capillary collections, glucose testing, verifying patient insurance, and basic data entry for specimen accession. You will work every other weekend plus one weekday per week, from 1 pm to 9:30 pm, for a total of 16 hours per week. Initial training will be on the day shift from 5 am to 1:30 pm during the first four weeks. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to the department's goals and follow policies, procedures, quality and safety standards. Collect blood from patients according to laboratory protocols. Ensure medical necessity, document ICD‑10 codes or diagnoses, obtain physician signatures, and handle advance beneficiary notices as required. Greet patients courteously, verify ID, perform phlebotomy (including skin and heel punctures when necessary), and place orders correctly in LIS. Label specimens accurately and maintain a sanitary work area. Maintain a good attendance record and foster effective relationships with coworkers and other departments. Assist with equipment care and request supplies as needed. Participate in training new associates and respond to telephone calls professionally. Engage in meetings, committees, community outreach, and multidisciplinary quality improvement teams. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED; completion of a hospital‑approved phlebotomy course. Experience: Licenses and Certifications: CPT – Phlebotomy Technician Certification (preferred); valid Maryland driver’s license and dependable vehicle (preferred). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Basic computer skills; verbal and written communication skills. Salary USD $19.55 – $34.25 per hour.
