Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker - Solid Waste Landfill City of Billings is seeking an Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and equipment operation duties involved in the maintenance and construction of public works, parks, or public utilities facilities, structures, and systems. Salary Maintenance Worker: $21.12 – $23.29 per hour. Equipment Operator: $24.77 – $27.32 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 3 of a 7-step pay scale and will be dependent on applicant education, experience, and training. Work Schedule Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment. Check tires, oil, lubricant, water levels, lights, and fuel. Wash, lubricate, and adjust equipment. Change tires. Maintain shop and storage areas used in performing assigned tasks. Maintain cleanliness of work area and tools. Maintain a variety of records and complete activity records and reports. Use a variety of hand and power tools. Perform heavy manual labor and load and haul equipment. Serve as a lead worker when assigned under current City contract. Perform a variety of duties involved in solid waste collection and disposal, including loading and operating sanitation trucks, removing debris and trash from streets, alleys, and roadway, operating automated and other refuse packers, moving, leveling, and covering refuse at landfill, maintaining landfill roads, and performing general labor duties at the landfill. Assist landfill attendant as assigned and perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Qualifications – Maintenance Worker Two (2) years of related work experience performing field maintenance and equipment operation duties. Possession of a State of Montana Class B Type 2 commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment. Required Skills/Qualifications – Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker Three (3) years of related work experience performing field maintenance and equipment operation duties. Possession of a State of Montana Class B Type 2 commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement. Preferred Skills/Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
