Department Chair – School of Nursing – On Site, St. Petersburg, Florida The Florida Site Department Chair is a member of the Excelsior University faculty and has authority for the delivery of academic programs in accordance with College and University strategic plans and goals as a guiding compass, hiring and evaluation of faculty in various roles, and the coordination of departmental budgeting and resource management. The authority of this position is subject to approval by the Executive Dean of the College, the Dean or Associate Dean of the School and the Provost.

As a member of the school administration, the Chair coordinates departmental activity with the activities of other units in the College and at the University. As a change leader, the Chair works in collaboration with other members of the administration to drive student success and assists in the development and implementation of School and College initiatives across multiple modalities. As a member of the faculty, this role has teaching responsibilities commensurate with the scale and scope of the size of the department. This position will report to the Associate Dean of the respective School or the Executive Dean's determined designee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Department Administration

Work with faculty, staff, and students within the department to establish and maintain strategic and operational leadership and management consistent with the college and university goals.

Serve as a departmental liaison within the school and coordinate with the Provost’s Office and other cross-functional units within the institution, member of the extended academic leadership team.

Ensure departmental compliance with rules, regulations, and standards of School, College, University, State, and institutional and specialized accreditors.

Department Curriculum

Collaborates on curriculum development, alignment, and revisions for the department in conjunction with university priorities and guidelines.

Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and engagement in curriculum development and course design in coordination with university instructional design unit.

Review and assess academic programs offered by the department according to established university guidelines, metrics, and specialized accreditation requirements where applicable.

Assess University-level, program, and general education learning outcomes for courses taught within the department in collaboration with the university’s outcomes assessment unit, faculty, and students within programs of responsibility.

Leads the development and implementation of new and redesigned academic programs at the direction of the Executive Dean.

Operational Leadership and Management

Coordinate and monitor program pathways and course schedules, with the support of the Assistant Dean, to ensure program and student success in alignment with established university criteria.

Manage course registrations and instructor assignments in accordance with university-set benchmarks and quality metrics.

Utilize and translate data benchmarks and generate reports on goal specific metrics to drive decision-making.

Lead specialized accreditation requirements in conjunction with program learning assessment.

Manage and regularly monitor departmental operations within parameters and guidelines set by the university.

Review and revise department information published in the university’s systems.

Collaborate with marketing and enrollment management to maintain departmental print and electronic records, including websites.

Participate in cross-functional leadership and collaboration with other programs, schools, and departments.

Recruit, appoint, and supervise faculty in coordination with Human Resources and consistent with university policies and practices.

Evaluate faculty performance in accordance with established university policies and protocols and best practices in the field.

Review faculty issues and concerns within the department in accordance with and respond appropriately with success.

Ownership of program planning and execution.

Serve as a liaison with Marketing and Enrollment Management to support the recruitment and retention of students in the department's programs.

Participate in student success data meetings and engage in evidence-based decision-making to support the quality improvement of program, curriculum, and faculty and ensure student success.

Coordinate with student advising and coaching to monitor progress of students through program pathways at various levels.

Oversee and ensure compliance transfer credit in accordance with university standards and in collaboration with FT-faculty and academic evaluators in the Transcript Analysis Center.

Faculty Responsibilities

Maintain a scholarly agenda in alignment with university and college strategic goals.

Engage department faculty in university and community service activities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able and willing to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. An earned doctorate or related field, or an earned doctorate/terminal degree with at least 18 credit hours at the graduate level in a related field.

Minimum of three years of teaching experience.

Two to three years of progressive administrative experience, with consistent evidence of exemplary leadership and teamwork.

Strong track record of promoting student success using evidence-based decision-making to support the quality improvement of academic programs, curriculum, and faculty.

Demonstrated experience with the recruitment, selection, evaluation, development, and mentoring of faculty.

Experience with program and student learning outcomes assessment, as well as program and institutional accreditation processes and procedures.

Experience with supporting the coordination, preparation, and maintenance of a budget in an academic environment preferred.

Strong track record of working collaboratively and collegially with faculty across disciplines to support high quality standards.

Excellent communication skills, comfort with timelines, dates, and deliverables.

The hiring salary range for this position is $95,000.00 - $105,000.00.
