Position Patient Service Technician
Summary The Patient Service Technician (PST) is responsible for the delivery, setup, and pickup of DME and respiratory equipment and supplies to home care patients. The PST instructs patients on proper use and care of equipment, serves as the company’s primary representative to customers, and coordinates patient status changes with the care team.
Primary Responsibilities
Delivery
Deliver, set up, and pick up DME equipment, supplemental oxygen products, and supplies to home care patients and commercial accounts within a designated geographic area.
Organize and load products in the proper order for delivery.
Complete deliveries, new patient set‑ups, and equipment returns safely and efficiently per company and regulatory guidelines. Meet scheduled delivery times and call customers if unable to deliver or pickup on time.
Driving
Practice safe driving habits and proper safety precautions.
Work with dispatch to create the most efficient delivery routes.
Possess knowledge of the geographic area and road conditions.
Maintain responsibility for vehicle and equipment while on delivery/pickup.
Infection Control
Execute proper hand‑washing technique between patients.
Wear gloves when exchanging disposables or picking up dirty equipment.
Identify, handle, and dispose of hazardous materials such as needles and fluids.
Bag all dirty equipment and isolate it from clean equipment in vans and the warehouse.
Equipment Assembly
Assist with pulling equipment and supplies from the warehouse as prescribed on patient/client delivery tickets.
Provide skilled assembly and inspection of equipment as needed.
Prepare new equipment set‑up packets.
Patient Instruction
Provide patient/client orientation and instruction on proper use of equipment under the guidance of a clinical team member.
Solicit sales of new or additional products or services by suggesting follow‑up items related to the patient’s diagnosis.
Documentation and Collections
Communicate financial responsibility to customers and collect copays, deductibles, or full amounts as necessary.
Deliver company patient packet including patient rights and financial responsibility information.
Complete delivery and pickup paperwork promptly and accurately, gathering required insurance information and signatures.
Return paperwork to the appropriate personnel and prepare accurate, legible and timely paperwork to comply with company and regulatory requirements.
Customer Service
Act as the primary company representative to customers.
Respond skillfully to grieving, upset, or difficult customers and work proactively to solve problems.
Offer compassionate and positive interactions with customers.
Maintain confidentiality at all times when responding to customers.
Patient‑Home Assessment
Assess home safety, accessibility, and patient needs; complete appropriate forms.
Communicate changes in patient status or environment to the company.
Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Plan
Maintain knowledge of basic home safety and emergency response policies and procedures.
Oxygen Delivery and Safety
Follow FDA, OSHA, DOT regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
Provide proper oxygen backup and safety procedures to customers.
On Call
Respond to scheduled on‑call time quickly within corporate guidelines.
Provide telephone problem‑solving and, if necessary, onsite visit with documentation.
Cleaning and Disinfecting Equipment
Maintain appropriate storage of clean and dirty equipment.
Return dirty equipment to the designated area until cleaned, preventing cross‑traffic.
Clean and disinfect equipment using proper PPE; note items needing repair.
Follow bagging and tagging procedures and restock items daily.
Vehicle Maintenance
Proactively maintain company vehicles in good order; keep interior and exterior clean.
Perform daily preventive maintenance and report mechanical irregularities immediately.
Maintenance
Maintain the warehouse area neatly and orderly.
Assist with structure maintenance and landscaping as needed; perform special projects as requested.
Shipping and Receiving
Efficiently prepare products for shipping daily and choose cost‑effective shipping methods.
Receive shipped items daily, verify accuracy, notify appropriate parties of shortages or damage, and update inventory.
Inventory
Maintain accurate inventory and consistent stocking of equipment and supplies.
Perform physical inventory as required and enter data into the computer system.
Rules and Regulations
Comply with company policies, procedures, and patient protocols.
Comply with government regulations and professional standards related to patient care.
Follow policies for equipment repair and maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
Professional Approach
Display punctuality and dependability; maintain the company’s image at the highest level.

Maintain confidentiality and security of information and adhere to HIPAA and other privacy regulations.

Excellent knowledge of the equipment sold and associated procedures; understand reimbursement processes.
Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, Medicare, accrediting bodies, and other agencies’ rules and regulations.
Understand HIPAA, confidentiality, and privacy compliance.
Work Conditions and Physical Demands
Medium physical demand: lifting up to 75 lbs, frequent stooping, bending, long periods of sitting, standing or driving.
Work in open environments with extreme heat or cold.
Fine‑motor dexterity and cognitive ability for driving, customer instruction, and visual, hearing, and speech requirements.
Mental Demands
Ability to think quickly in response to customer requests and complaints.
Fluency in English (and Spanish) for communication with the majority of customers.
Maintain focus, organization, and objective achievement; calculate figures and double‑check amounts.
