Overview The primary responsibilities of the Trauma Registrar Tier I include data collection, data entry, and reporting within the trauma registry. The role demands accuracy and confidentiality, supporting the Trauma Program by maintaining the registry and utilizing clinical and financial databases to identify and analyze improvement opportunities. The registrar provides clinical and financial data to the trauma division, focusing on performance improvement with the goal of enhancing patient care and financial viability of the program. This position demonstrates excellent customer service performance and consistency with Covenant HealthCare's Vision, Mission, and Values.

Responsibilities

Adhere to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment, utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building, while following hospital policies and procedures.

Maintain a comprehensive listing of pediatric and adult trauma patients by reviewing Emergency Department admissions logs and the Trauma Patient Report.

Ensure the accuracy of the Trauma Registry data by abstracting patient charts, assigning ICD‑10 CM diagnosis and procedure codes, and entering data into the trauma database; backup the database regularly and collect additional data as requested.

Maintain documentation and accurate records of trauma registry activity through data cleaning and validation.

Assist in trauma service activities, including preparing monthly and quarterly reports.

Participate in professional development to assure skills and knowledge related to trauma data information.

Demonstrate effective communication methods, maintaining confidentiality and establishing ongoing communication with staff, patients, families, and others.

Attend and participate in departmental meetings.

Demonstrate commitment to customer service.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate degree in a health‑related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

LPN, RN, or Paramedic licensed in Michigan preferred.

ICD‑10, AIS, and Trauma Registry course completed within one year of hire or transfer.

Trauma Registrar Certification preferred.

Experience with Trauma Registry.

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, ICD‑10, CPT, DRG, AIS, and ISS coding.

Knowledge and proficiency in medical and hospital terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Working knowledge of database design and interface between EPIC and the trauma registry.

Verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency in data entry and use of computer software for data handling.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands Regular, punctual attendance is required, consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other standards. The role involves frequent sitting, talking, hearing, vision tasks, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, and other light physical tasks.
