Job Summary and Qualifications The professional Registered Nurse (RN) serves as the advocate for patients and their families. He/she consistently applies and utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgement, technical skills, and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care. The RN collaborates with the patient care team to achieve quality patient outcomes aligned with the hospital mission and Methodist Excellence goals.
Essential Job Functions
Apply nursing judgment through a systematic nursing process that includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation/reassessment.
Assessment: Conduct comprehensive, timely, and ongoing focused physical, psychosocial, and pain assessments; identify patient education needs.
Planning: Utilize assessment data to identify problems, make nursing diagnoses, formulate goals, develop teaching plans, and set outcomes to create an individualised plan of care. Identify patient goals, learning readiness, and incorporate family into the plan.
Implementation: Prioritise and execute a competent, efficient care plan.
Evaluation/Reassessment: Conduct timely evaluations, anticipate and recognise changes in patient conditions, determine when reassessments are necessary, and adjust the plan of care accordingly.
Collaborate with patient care team members on care plans; communicate timely and effectively with physicians and other team members through verbal, written, or electronic means; use hand‑off communication and SBAR methods.
Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgement, and organisational skills; prioritise tasks and adjust priorities as needed; maintain orderly and efficient patient flow; recognise and report errors and take corrective action.
Document accurate, complete, and timely entries into the patient medical record, addressing all steps of the nursing process.
Maintain current nursing knowledge to ensure a safe working environment; demonstrate practical application of policies and procedures, including quality core measures, infection prevention, fall prevention, medication administration safety, hourly rounding, and AIDET principles.
Supervise tasks delegated to unlicensed personnel and be accountable for their performance according to Texas BON rules for delegated nursing tasks (Chapter 224).
Qualifications
Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Minimum 6 months applicable experience required.
