Job Summary This position supports the AU Center for Blood Disorders, an outpatient hematology clinic providing care for adults with bleeding disorders, clotting disorders, and sickle cell disease. The Nurse Clinician will provide direct patient care (including phlebotomy), coordinate clinical operations, manage prescription refills, answer patient messages, maintain clinic inventory, and complete patient‑related documents. Other duties include serving as patient advocate, collaborating with the multi‑disciplinary medical team, and providing education/counseling and patient‑education sessions. The role may also support research operations, including recruitment assistance and protocol‑required tasks.

Responsibilities

Perform and document nursing assessments, including vital signs, point‑of‑care testing, medication reconciliation, and evaluation of physical and psychosocial needs.

Develop and implement nursing treatment plans.

Enter orders as directed for diagnostic tests, labs, and referrals.

Perform in‑clinic phlebotomy (capillary, peripheral, and central venous port access) and deliver lab samples to the receiving lab.

Review laboratory and diagnostic results, ensuring providers are aware of abnormal values and coordinating treatment.

Triage and track incoming referrals, deciding on appropriateness and urgency for scheduling.

Manage patient calls and messages, triage needs, answer questions, and provide education.

Coordinate appointments and patient contact with all disciplines and services.

Assist with medication assessments, including new prescriptions, renewals, prior authorization, and communication with providers, patients, and pharmacies.

Follow up on laboratory and other test results, communicating with providers and facilitating interventions.

Help complete paperwork to support patients’ insurance, work or school requirements, disability assessments, and financial needs.

Monitor patient status relative to goals and evidence‑based management.

Perform occasional travel to outreach clinics.

Provide information and education to patients and family members to promote comprehensive care, transition readiness, and research opportunities.

Serve as a resource for community educational events.

Maintain inventory of clinical supplies and place orders for supervisor.

Maintain clinical databases (data entry, auditing, and reporting).

Schedule local and outreach clinics, promote patient compliance, and follow up on no‑shows.

Assist with re‑engaging patients lost to follow‑up.

Coordinate multi‑disciplinary comprehensive clinics.

Assist with quality assurance and quality improvement efforts.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia, and a minimum of three years of clinical experience. Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.

OR

Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Georgia, and a minimum of six years of clinical experience. Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Self‑motivated with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Detail‑oriented with strong prioritization, organizational, typing, and multi‑tasking skills.

Knowledge of good clinical practices and IRB requirements; basic clinical skills; patient evaluation procedures; medical terminology.

Ability to maintain confidentiality; interpret lab tests/x‑rays; exercise sound judgment; work independently; and work flexible hours.

Shift / Salary / Benefits Shift:

Days, Monday‑Friday (outside of normal business hours may be required for an exempt position). Pay Band:

B13 Salary:

$68,500 – $87,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment Period:

5/20/25 – Until Filled.
