As a Motor Technician in the Motor Pool, you will support the state-supported living centers by maintaining and repairing vehicles that serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, diagnosis, repair or replacement of defective vehicle components.
Conduct safety and emissions inspections.
Exchange, rebuild and overhaul motors, transmissions, differentials, carburetors and other vehicle systems.
Distribute motor‑vehicle supplies and maintain an inventory of parts and equipment.
Maintain records of work performed and parts used.
May maintain and repair heavy construction equipment.
Provide guidance to other technicians when required.
Perform additional duties assigned, including participation in disaster response and continuity operations.
Qualifications
High‑school diploma or GED; completion of an accredited vocational or technical program in automotive repair is preferred.
One (1) year of experience in repair and maintenance of motor vehicles.
Valid Texas driver’s license (or to be obtained within 90 days of hire). Out‑of‑state license holders must provide a certified driving record.
Certification from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (optional). Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Inspector license (optional).
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair techniques, safety practices, departmental policies, record‑keeping procedures, electrical and computerized systems, and emission‑control systems.
Skill in locating and diagnosing defective mechanical problems.
Physical & Work Conditions
Day shift with opportunities for additional first‑shift work.
Work may include overtime, extended hours, weekends and holidays.
Position requires readiness to work flexible hours.
Applicants must be 18 years or older.
Background & Drug Screening Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and the HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). All employees are subject to random drug testing.
