Loan Review Officer
Position Overview
A well‑capitalized community bank is seeking an experienced
Loan Review Officer
to lead and execute independent credit risk reviews across the commercial loan portfolio. This role plays a critical part in maintaining asset quality, regulatory compliance, and strong credit governance while partnering constructively with lending and credit leadership.
The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience reviewing commercial, CRE, and specialty loan portfolios, understands regulatory expectations, and can clearly communicate findings to senior management and examiners.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct independent, risk‑based loan reviews of commercial, CRE, agricultural, and specialty loan portfolios
Assess underwriting quality, credit administration, risk ratings, policy adherence, and covenant compliance
Validate internal risk ratings and identify emerging credit trends or concentrations
Prepare clear, concise written loan review reports with actionable recommendations
Track and follow up on management responses and remediation plans
Support regulatory examinations and serve as a key point of contact for examiners related to loan review matters
Partner with Credit Administration, Lending, and Risk Management while maintaining independence
Assist with annual loan review planning, scope development, and portfolio sampling methodologies
Qualifications
5 years of experience in loan review, credit risk, credit administration, or underwriting
Strong working knowledge of commercial lending, CRE, and credit policy standards
Experience interacting with bank regulators and supporting safety & soundness exams
Ability to analyze complex credit structures and financial statements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of professionalism, independence, and sound judgment
Preferred
Prior community or regional bank experience
Formal credit training or regulatory background
Experience with criticized/classified assets and problem loan identification
