Starting Pay :

$21.20

per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends.

Requirements : Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months. Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full‑time students consecutively for the last 36 months.

Rehire criteria

Hours : 6:30 am – 3:30 pm

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Position Summary

This position is responsible in assisting with supervising, supporting, and training Laying House Worker Team Members engaged in attending to and caring for birds in laying. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative duties as assigned by Farm Manager. (25%)

Spend time in laying houses daily to ensure Laying Caretakers are properly trained and are executing good management practices each day in order to ensure satisfactory flock performance and quality of eggs produced. (25%)

Supervise and assist with feeding and watering birds according to schedules; walk houses daily, ensure mortality is removed; record information such as bird weight, eggs produced, feed intake and mortality. (10%)

Collect bird and environmental samples and assist in shipping and/or transporting these samples to lab.

Perform routine housekeeping duties and insure outside appearance of the farm meets Farm Manager’s expectations. (15%)

Assist with cleaning and disinfecting houses to prepare for birds. (5%)

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as assisting with all duties of the laying caretakers; sanitation of equipment and vehicles; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy; drive company vehicle on the farm and outside the farm for repair parts and supplies; assist with scheduling of absent team members; run feed to houses so birds have the correct feed. Assist Farm Manager in providing required training to all Team Members working on the farm. (20%)

Must maintain 4 attendance points or less.

Requirements and Qualifications

Lead or management experience in a production or farm setting preferred

Proven ability to make confident, independent decisions

Ability to send professional emails and use computer systems for record keeping and ordering supplies (e.g., Excel, SAP, QAP, TMS, FPS, CHS).

Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking skills. Monitor inventory levels and proactively order supplies and stock as needed.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work with and manage diverse personalities effectively.

Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with vendors and internal staff.

Physical ability to lift and move items as required.

Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Must be able to understand and communicate safety instructions, safety trainings, and team directives.

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare/Safety Requirements

The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 35 pounds to move items such as egg flats, supplies, bags of shavings, etc. May be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds such as feed, shavings, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk majority of shift on multiple surfaces; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; talk or hear; stoop/bend up to 500 times per day; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Tools and Equipment: Requires use of hand tools such as permanent marker, brooms, pitchfork, scissors, nail clippers, etc. and safe operation of vehicle to and from work area.

Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.

Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles and/or glasses, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Arm protectors are available if desired. Ear plugs will be used as required. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.

Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Lysol, bleach, insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides, formaldehyde, etc.

Safety: Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
