Position Information
Department: Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities – Park Maintenance Division
Salary: Negotiable

Job Summary Responsible to serve as the liaison between the Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities Department and the Western Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center. Oversee a crew of inmate workers in the maintenance of city parks, boulevards, and facilities. Oversees work in progress and provides instructions and directives to crew members. This position is contingent on the department continuing the inmate work release program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee inmate work release program, ensuring full departmental compliance with WRDCC rules and regulations.
Attend “Offender Supervisor” training administered by WRDCC to maintain “Offender Supervisor” status.
Supervise crew of inmate workers while performing mowing, trimming and general maintenance of the park system.
Discuss daily assignments with Senior Work Leader.
Oversee work in progress and provide instructions regarding work methods.
Allocate equipment for various tasks, and the transportation of inmate crews, materials and tools.
Provide instructions to crew members regarding work methods and safety on the job.
Assist in carpentry work, painting, plumbing, concrete, masonry and any maintenance or construction activities.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in delivery of equipment for city-sponsored events and projects.
Assist in general maintenance of the park system.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skills planning, organizing and directing work of others.
Skills in the operation of trucks, vans, mowers, chain saws, weed eaters and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks.
Knowledge of department and WRDCC rules and regulations.
Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively with crews.
Material and Equipment Directly Used Operates a passenger van, pickup, dump truck, bucket truck, bobcat, tractor, backhoe; occasionally may operate other hand tools and power tools including mowers, weed eaters and chain saws. There may be times when use of a personal vehicle may be required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Majority of work is performed outdoors, where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold, with high levels of dust, dirt, fumes and noise. Regularly drives passenger van with trailer, occasionally operates other tools and equipment. Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and using arms and hands frequently. Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.
Education High school diploma or equivalent preferred. One to three years of experience preferred.
Background Screening Passing of a drug screening and a criminal background check is required prior to appointment.
