Position Summary The Landscape Construction Project Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating of landscape construction projects from initial takeoff through final bid submission and operational turnover. This role requires strong technical estimating skills, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate closely with project managers, field leadership, and ownership.
You will estimate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes for private and public works projects while helping refine estimating systems, workflows, and standards as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate, competitive estimates for landscape construction projects of varying size and complexity
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost modeling (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors)
Bid private and public works projects, including complex scopes such as podiums and rooftop landscapes
Review plans, specifications, addenda, and client‑issued documents (ITB, SOW, bid forms, schedules)
Monitor planrooms and ensure bids reflect the most current documents
Risk, Pricing & Strategy
Build estimates aligned with job‑specific markup strategies
Descope subcontractor proposals and identify scope gaps or risk exposure
Provide risk assessments and value‑engineering recommendations
Support value‑added pricing opportunities where appropriate
Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership to ensure clean operational turnover
Participate in pre‑bid meetings, scope reviews, and post‑bid discussions
Assist in developing estimating standards, templates, and workflows
Mentor and support junior estimators or trainees as the department grows
Develop and maintain a qualified vendor and subcontractor network
Understand wage determinations, prevailing wages, and union classifications where applicable
Ensure compliance with state and federal labor requirements
Minimum Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, horticulture, accounting, mathematics, or related field
Equivalent professional experience (4+ years) may substitute for formal education
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial landscape or construction estimating
Proven track record of bid‑to‑contract conversion
Experience in estimating large, complex projects
Technical Skills
Proficient in estimating software such as On‑Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, B2W, and Microsoft Office
Strong understanding of labor productivity, equipment costing, and material pricing
Ability to interpret construction documents with precision
Professional Skills
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and deadline‑driven
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously in a high‑volume environment
Comfortable working independently while collaborating cross‑functionally
Professional demeanor with clients, vendors, and internal teams
Licenses & Certifications
Valid driver’s license
Any required state or federal certifications
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and work at a computer for extended periods
Occasional field visits in outdoor conditions
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally
Exposure to construction environments, weather, and typical jobsite conditions
