Job Summary This role reports to the Regional Business Services Manager within Regional Administrative Services. The Materials Management Specialist (Vehicle Driver) manages the end‑to‑end flow of equipment, furniture, supplies, and mail for HHS offices throughout the region. Responsibilities span vehicle operation, warehouse and mailroom duties, installation, and emergency response support.
Responsibilities
Drive state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver and pick up large items such as furniture, filing cabinets, IT equipment, and emergency office supplies.
Operate and maintain vehicle logs, perform minor repairs, and ensure compliance with state and federal traffic regulations.
Manage shipping and receiving operations in the warehouse and mailroom, including inspecting packages, signing for deliveries, and routing items to appropriate personnel.
Operate warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, power lifts, golf carts) to store and move materials safely.
Assemble, install, and modify modular furniture, and perform minor building repairs such as painting and plumbing adjustments.
Coordinate office moves, oversee contractor activities for moves and modular furniture installation, and assist with Quick Copy center operations.
Participate in the Regional Disaster Deployment Team to deliver, set up, and monitor emergency equipment for disaster areas.
Maintain accurate records using CAFM and CAPPS systems and produce monthly vehicle and inventory reports.
Provide on‑site support for emergency or disaster situations, including overnight stays if required.
Essential Job Functions (EJF)
Drive state agency vehicles, inspect freight, and determine efficient routing to HHS offices.
Monitor vehicle maintenance, update logs, and submit monthly reports to the fleet management system.
Perform shipping and receiving duties, verify purchase orders, and manage outgoing mail and package shipments.
Maintain warehouse inventory levels, adapt stock, and use motorized equipment for material handling.
Assemble and install furniture, perform minor repairs, and assist with office relocations.
Engage in disaster response activities, including assembly of temporary office shelters.
Adhere to agency leave policy and complete additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance, including safe cargo loading and unloading.
State and federal traffic rules for cargo and mail delivery.
Warehousing procedures and safe use of motorized equipment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and agency documentation systems (CAPPS, CAFM).
Physical ability to lift, pull, push, and carry 50 lbs; perform basic building maintenance.
Effective written and oral communication; ability to follow directions and assemble basic items.
Local and statewide travel, including overnight stays, as required.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
Initial Screening Criteria
High School diploma or GED.
Effective written communication demonstrated in application.
Preferred experience in shipping, receiving, sorting, and distributing furniture, supplies, or equipment.
Preferred Experience
Driving panel truck and/or cargo van.
Operating warehouse equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, or dolly.
Experience pulling a trailer.
