Director of Engineering – R&D
Well‑known manufacturer of industrial and residential equipment needs a Director of Engineering for R&D. This position is in the Memphis, Tennessee area. Relocation assistance is available. This is an onsite position – remote or hybrid arrangements are not accepted. You must be willing to live and work in the Memphis area.
The company seeks someone with experience designing and manufacturing consumer appliances and commercial electromechanical devices such as lawnmowers, air compressors, pumps, air conditioners, and washing machines. Ideal candidates have worked with medium to high‑volume production of sheet‑metal, plastic, and motor‑powered products that include electronic control systems.
Responsibilities
Manage engineering teams that design and launch new products, ensuring high quality, cost effectiveness, design deadlines, and budget management.
Mentor engineers, collaborate with marketing on product planning, and work with international design and product management teams.
Leverage experience with global manufacturing of sheet‑metal components, motors, electronic controls, die castings, and plastics.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Minimum ten years of engineering experience with at least five years in a management role.
Proven ability to lead engineering teams locally and internationally.
Experience in product development strategies, including mechanical, materials, electrical, and software engineering innovations.
Advanced skills in design simulations.
Experience developing and maintaining supply chains, assessing risk to delivery of designs and products.
Familiarity with domestic and international electrical safety standards.
