Hiring Range: $37,849 - $81,000

Responsibilities

Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate plant and chilled water bridge controls and instrumentation, large variable frequency drives and uninterruptible power supplies at chiller plants and campus buildings.

Install, calibrate and commission new and retrofit chiller plant and chilled water bridge instrumentation and final control elements.

Configure and operate District Cooling Systems, including system starts after outages, problem diagnosis, trend analysis, graphics, alarms and reports for the SCADA system.

Provide emergency duty during adverse weather and other University or Chilled Water Systems emergencies.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent combination of training and experience (must be from an accredited institution).

Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing large variable frequency drives and control systems in an industrial or district energy setting.

Knowledge of wiring diagrams, process and control diagrams for distributed control systems.

Working knowledge of continuous process control principles and practices.

Proficiency with test equipment such as digital meters, oscilloscopes, and calibrators.

In-depth understanding of PWM motor drives, harmonics, EMF, RF interference, grounding and transient mitigation.

Proficiency in CAD drawing programs and Microsoft Office.

Ability to work on multiple projects within tight schedules, plan independently, make responsible decisions, and communicate effectively.

Valid NC Driver’s License.

Must be available for emergency duty, on-call rotation, and various shifts (evenings, nights, weekends).

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation, and Process Controls.

Related technical degree in computer programming, electrical or mechanical engineering.

Progressive on-the-job training, self-study, and experience in similar environments.

Physical/Mental Requirements

Work in noisy environment requiring hearing protection; some work at high places such as cooling towers.

Potential exposure to hazardous materials and high voltages.

Sign‑On Bonus A sign‑on bonus of $7,458 is available (paid in two installments: $3,729 within 30 days of hire and $3,729 12 months after hire). Eligibility requires applicant not have worked in a state government position in the last 12 months and be a newly hired permanent full‑time employee.
