The YMCA of Hannibal is seeking a full‑time Aquatics Director to join our team in America’s hometown.

Consistent with the mission and vision of the YMCA of Hannibal, the Aquatics Director is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing high‑quality aquatics programs. The current program includes swim lessons, water safety, lifeguarding classes, water aerobics, and works closely with the Hannibal Hurricanes Swim Team.

This position offers a competitive salary, performance incentives, benefits, and a fully funded 12% Y Retirement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

Minimum two (2) years of experience supervising lifeguards and swim instructors.

Must be at least 21 years old.

Certified Swim Instructor.

Certified Lifeguard; Principles of Aquatics Leadership preferred.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.

Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Certifications to attain within 180 days of hire: CPO, YMCA Pool Operator or equivalent, and YMCA Aquatics Management.

Certifications to attain within 1 year of hire: YMCA Introduction to Fiscal Management, YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, and YMCA Supervision.

Essential Functions

Directs and supervises program activities to meet community needs and fulfill YMCA objectives.

Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.

Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool, spa, and sauna. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, first aid, and CPR trainings.

Maintains proper records, including staff certifications, staff meetings, and daily logs used for policy and procedure review so that information can be reviewed at any time.

Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and coordinates with Head Swim Team Coach to schedule practices and meets.

As part of the leadership team: builds supervisor shifts – scheduled nights/weekends.

Develops, administers, and controls the aquatic department budget and takes appropriate action to maintain the fiscal integrity of the department.

Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.

Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

Reports program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

Coaches the Bronze Group for the Hannibal Hurricanes Swim Team.

Complies with the YMCA of Hannibal Employee Handbook.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
