Job Description:
The Research Specialist I, under general supervision, assists in field experiment activities on the PVAMU research farm. Responsibilities include regular visits and monitoring of installed sensors and equipment, collecting soil samples for soil health—including soil carbon—and monitoring and quantifying greenhouse gases using TraceGas analyzers. The role also supports PIs, Co-PIs, and researchers as needed, participates in outreach activities, collaborates with other researchers in the college, and aids undergraduate and graduate students.
Funding Notice:
This position is funded by restricted funds or a grant. Continued employment is contingent upon the renewal of restricted or grant funds.
Responsibilities:
Monitor and verify planting, soil amendment/interventions under guidance of the project lead and Co-leads.
Install and maintain field equipment and sensors.
Collect, analyze, and store in situ measurements, including soil health parameters.
Prepare datasets to share with other investigators or collaborators.
Assist undergraduate and graduate students.
Assist faculty with field demonstrations for students and/or stakeholders, including farmers.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree
Four years of related experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge about cropping system and soil amendments.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Considerable experience in outreach activities, field work, laboratory analytical techniques, and project implementations.
Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, educators, and staff.
Ability to organize tasks and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
Knowledge of field experiments.
Experience and/or skills for outreach activities.
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
Ability to exert heavy force.
Work beyond normal business hours and/or on weekends.
