Purpose Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking a Junior Optical Engineer or Physicist to support weapon system sensor/seeker simulation, testing, evaluation, development, planning, and analysis. The role may include optical system requirements, design, development, and analysis; scene projector optics integration with seekers/sensors; laser and infrared radiometry testing of cameras and sources; and other electro‑optical sensor support.
Responsibilities
Provide optical engineering design, development, integration, test, verification, and analysis expertise for scene projection and weapon system integration and test.
Coordinate with other optics subject‑matter experts (SMEs).
Design and develop laser and optical solutions for testing with seekers/sensors.
Design, assemble, align, and test optical, illumination, and laser systems.
Configure, radiometrically calibrate, and operate specialized equipment for missile sensor/seeker and other electro‑optical sensor testing.
Resolve complex problems with comprehensive knowledge and provide solutions.
Collaborate and mentor team members.
Prepare regular program status reports for senior leadership and government customers.
Identify and mitigate program risks while developing contingency plans.
Qualifications
BA/BS in optical engineering, physics or related area; 0‑10 years of related experience.
Ability to conduct research and analysis on optical requirements and designs.
Experience with optical design software for system design and ray‑tracing.
Higher‑level programming experience (Matlab, Python, or equivalent) for data analysis and visualization.
Passion for solving problems and providing workable solutions.
Strong analytical, reasoning, and visualization skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Self‑motivated with keen attention to detail.
Analytical and creative problem‑solving abilities.
Customer‑service orientation.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Optic Engineering, Physics, or related degree.
Experience with optical design, assembly, ray‑tracing, and/or HWIL testing.
Experience with HWIL equipment such as laser and/or EOIR scene projectors, sources, sensors, and optics.
Experience with ZEMAX, Code V, OSLO, or equivalent software.
Experience with Department of Defense programs.
Active DoD Secret clearance (preferred).
Security Requirements
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.
Travel Requirements
None to occasional travel; 10‑25% or less.
Candidate must obtain and maintain necessary identification credentials (e.g., REAL ID) if domestic flight or secure federal facility access is required.
Physical Requirements
Standing or sitting for prolonged periods, moving between work sites.
Ability to sit at a computer for long periods.
Communication with others to exchange information.
Light work, moving objects up to 25 pounds.
